Ukraine Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha announced the break of diplomatic relations between his country and Nicaragua in response to Nicaraguense recognition of Russian Ukrainian territories as Russians.
“Ukraine officially broke diplomatic relations with the Republic of Nicaragua,” Sybiha said through her X account.
“This decision occurs in response to Nicaragua’s so -called ‘sovereignty’ of Russia’s sovereignty over Ukrainian territories temporarily occupied in the regions of Donetsk, Lugansk, Zaporizehzia, Kherson and Crimea,” said the minister.
“We consider this decision as a deliberate attempt to undermine Ukraine sovereignty and its territorial integrity, a gross violation of the Ukraine constitution, the United Nations Charter and the fundamental rules of international law,” he added.
Sybiha stressed that the recognition of these regions occupied by Russia represents the “political alignment” of the Central American country with the “aggressor” of the conflict in Ukraine.
“Nicaragua’s decision seeks to legitimize the violent capture of territories,” Sybiha said before referring to the small American country as “an accomplice of the crime of aggression against Ukraine.”
“The ‘recognition’ by the Nicaragua of Russian occupation is null and void and without legal effect. It does not alter or ever change the internationally recognized boundaries of Ukraine,” the minister said.
“Ukraine will continue to respond firmly to any attempt to undermine its sovereignty and territorial integrity,” he added.
