The President of the United States, Donald Trump, regretted this Wednesday (29) that he could not run again for leadership of the country, acknowledging that he was not “authorized” due to the two-term limit established by the North American Constitution.
“I would say, if you read the Constitution, it’s pretty clear: I can’t run. It’s a shame. But we have a lot of good people.”
Speculation gained strength behind the scenes after statements from allies of the President of the United States suggesting that there was a plan for the Republican to run again for the White House.
The head of the White House himself had already toyed with the possibility of running for a third term, and caps with the inscription “Trump 2028” are currently on display in a room close to the Oval Office.
The president of the House of Representatives, Mike Johnson, told journalists this Tuesday (28) that “it was a great administration, but I think the president knows, and we have already talked about this, the limitations of the Constitution, as much as many Americans regret it”.
Asked about his conversation with Johnson, Trump told reporters aboard Air Force One: “I don’t even want to talk about it, because, you know, the sad thing is, I have the best approval ratings of my life.”
The president of the United States recently ruled out a “maneuver to circumvent the constitution, saying that it would be “too much hope” for him to run for the position of vice president and then assume the presidency after the elected candidate resigns.
