Trump mentions Brazil in meeting with Milei at the White House

The President of the United States, Donald Trump, referred again this Tuesday (14) to the conversation he had with President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) on the 6th, during a meeting at the White House with Javier Milei, President of Argentina.

“We had a very good conversation,” said the Republican in a brief statement alongside his South American ally, received this Tuesday in Washington.

Then, Trump stated that South American countries are approaching the United States and included Brazil on that list. “And Brazil, I had a very good conversation with the president [Lula]. I met him at the United Nations before he went up to speak”, recalled the White House leader.

At the beginning of the month, the PT member spoke with the American president via video call for approximately 30 minutes. On the occasion, Lula asked for a review of the 50% tariff on Brazilian imports and the sanctions imposed on the country’s authorities, such as Minister Alexandre de Moraes, of the Federal Supreme Court (STF).

Trump announced on that date that he intended to hold an official meeting with Lula in person, which has not happened since his inauguration in January. The two leaders experienced months of friction due to the trial of former president Jair Bolsonaro.

Milei’s meeting with Trump this Tuesday takes place less than a week after the United States directly purchased Argentine pesos and reached an agreement with the Central Bank of the South American country with the aim of helping Argentina’s economic recovery.
