The Norwegian committee’s announcement that Venezuela’s opposition leader, María Corina Machado, was chosen as the winner of the 2025 Nobel Peace Prize sparked criticism within Donald Trump’s government in the United States.
The organization justified the choice of Corina for “her tireless work in promoting the democratic rights of the Venezuelan people and for her fight to achieve a fair and peaceful transition from dictatorship to democracy”, as announced this Friday (10).
White House Communications Director Steven Cheung stated on
Trump has signaled on several occasions his desire to receive the award. This Thursday, during his cabinet meeting, he cited eight conflicts in the world that were “mediated” by the United States.
The most recent is the ceasefire agreed between Israel and Hamas, which came into force this Friday morning. The other seven are: Cambodia-Thailand; Kosovo-Serbia; Democratic Republic of Congo-Rwanda; Pakistan-India; Israel-Iran; Egypt-Ethiopia; and Armenia-Azerbaijan.
The US president has been formally nominated for the Nobel Prize on several occasions in recent months.
Netanyahu regrets that Trump did not win the Nobel Peace Prize
The Prime Minister of Israel, Benjamin Netanyahu, regretted this Friday that Donald Trump had not been awarded the 2025 Nobel Peace Prize, for which he had been nominated and which, in his opinion, “deserved”.
“The Nobel Committee talks about peace. President Donald Trump makes it a reality. The facts speak for themselves. President Trump deserves it,” the Israeli prime minister’s office wrote on his account on the social network X.
Netanyahu’s message makes reference to the peace agreement promoted by Trump for Gaza, which involves a ceasefire and the exchange of hostages for Palestinian prisoners and which came into force this Friday.
