With the average age of UK cars reaching a record 10 years, Warrantywise has revealed the most reliable used models between 8 and 12 years old.
The average car on Britain’s roads is now almost ten years old – the longest on record, according to new analysis of the national fleet. In response, Warrantywise used its Reliability index – regarded as one of the most comprehensive in the UK – to identify used cars that offer the best performance and lowest long-term maintenance costs.
The latest edition of the index shows that the Toyota Yaris took first place with a rating of 93.6 out of 100. In addition to excellent reliability, this model has a significantly lower risk of high costs, which reinforces its reputation as an economical and durable car.
The second place was taken by the Honda Civic with 93 points, followed by the Honda CR-V model (89 points). Among the top ten, the Mitsubishi Outlander is characterized by robustness, but also higher repair costs for more serious breakdowns – showing how important it is to understand the reliability and cost risk of older vehicles.

Brits are keeping their cars longer
According to the RAC Foundation, by the end of 2024 the average car in the UK was nine years and ten months old. The trend reflects the impact of rising living costs, a shortage of new vehicles and changing emissions regulations – factors that are leading drivers to delay buying new cars and invest more in maintaining their existing ones.
