A tropical storm that formed in the Caribbean Sea worries local authorities and could turn into a hurricane in the next few hours this Saturday (25).
Named “Melissa”, the storm is advancing towards the coast of Jamaica, with winds that have already exceeded 110 kilometers per hour. The phenomenon brings the risk of intense rain, flooding and landslides, according to the region’s meteorological services.
Given the strength of the system, a hurricane warning was issued for Jamaica, and there is also concern for the south of the Dominican Republic and Haiti, where heavy rain has been ongoing for a few days.
In Haiti, the government confirmed that three people have already died as a result of a landslide caused by recent storms.
According to meteorologists, the storm could quickly gain strength and reach Category 4 hurricane status by Sunday afternoon, posing a significant threat to the entire Caribbean region.
