The US embassy in Brazil announced on Wednesday that it suspended the regular update of its official account on social network X due to the ongoing budget stoppage in Washington.
“Due to budget stoppage, this X account will not be updated regularly until the total resumption of operations, except for urgent security information,” the diplomatic representation in a statement said.
According to the embassy, passport and visa services remain active in both the United States and consulates and embassies abroad, “while the situation allows.” The announcement was accompanied by a link to the official website of the State Department, with details about the operation of consular services during the restriction period.
The decision to restrict communication in networks occurs amid the impasse in the US Congress, which did not reach an agreement on the federal budget. The lack of consensus between Republicans and Democrats led to the so -called shutdownpartially paralyzing government activities. The blockade mainly affects services considered non -essential and should affect about 750,000 civil servants, temporarily removed.
At Wednesday’s session, Democrats in the Senate rejected the Provisional Republican bill, which would extend funding until November 21, as it does not include guarantees of extension of subsidies to the health program known as Obamacare. The Democratic proposal, which provided for extending health resources, was also barred by the Republican majority.
