Russia tested ‘unbeatable’ new underwater nuclear drone, says Putin

Russian President Vladimir Putin said on Wednesday that Russia tested a nuclear-capable Poseidon submarine super torpedo and that the test was a great success. U.S. and Russian officials have described Poseidon as a new category of retaliatory weapon, capable of generating radioactive waves in the ocean to render coastal cities uninhabitable. Putin told war-wounded soldiers in Ukraine that the test had taken place on Tuesday. “For the first time, we managed not only to launch it with a propulsion engine from a carrier submarine, but also to activate the nuclear power unit in which this device remained for a certain period of time,” Putin said. “This is a huge success,” Putin said, adding that the Poseidon’s power surpasses that of the Sarmat intercontinental missile.
