The National Executive Committee of the Workers’ Party (PT) issued a statement this Thursday (16), in which it repudiates the actions of the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) in Venezuela. This Wednesday (15), the President of the United States, Donald Trump, confirmed that it authorized agency operations a dictatorship controlled by Nicolás Maduro.
The publication takes place on the eve of a meeting between the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mauro Vieira, and the US Secretary of State, Marco Rubio. The meeting begins a negotiation process around the tariffs applied by the United States on products coming from Brazil.
The PT says the operation is “an affront to the sovereignty of the South American country and a violation of International Law.” The party also accuses the American armed forces of carrying out “summary executions of human lives”.
Furthermore, the delegation says that the United States has a tradition of actions “aimed at changing regimes considered hostile by Washington.” Despite not expressly mentioning it in the note, the PT defends the thesis that the American government had conspired in favor of the impeachment of former president Dilma Rousseff (PT).
The organization concludes the note: “the Workers’ Party strongly condemns yet another US attack on Venezuela’s sovereignty. We are defenders of International Law and the principles of non-interference and self-determination of people anywhere in the world.”

Concerned about drug trafficking under the Maduro regime, Trump says he is working to end the practice’s threats to American citizens. The actions target groups such as, for example, the Los Sóles Cartel. Trump accuses Maduro of heading the criminal organization responsible for international drug trafficking.
The American government believes that, since Hugo Chávez came to power in 1999, there has been a process of “nationalization of drug trafficking” in the country. With this, Venezuela would have become a narcostate. The Los Sóles Cartel, in fact, is made up mainly of high-ranking Venezuelan military personnel.
In an interview in the Oval Office, Trump declared that “we have a lot of drugs coming from Venezuela, and a lot of Venezuelan drugs come by sea, so you can see that, but we’re going to stop them on land as well.”
