According to Israeli state media, 20 people who had been under the power of the terrorist group for two years were released. The release is part of the ceasefire agreement signed between Israel and the terrorist group, on Wednesday (8). There were 48 hostages held by Hamas in the Gaza Strip. Of these, 20 were released alive. Israel says the remaining 28 hostages are dead, but the status of two of them is still officially unknown. The terrorist group asked for more time to return the bodies of the hostages who died. The whereabouts of some of them are unknown. In total, Hamas kidnapped 251 people in the terrorist attack on October 7, 2023. At the time, around 1,200 people were murdered. Other hostages have been released under other ceasefire agreements. In return, the Israeli government released 2,000 Palestinian prisoners, including 250 who had been sentenced to life in prison for crimes committed against Israel and its population. These prisoners boarded Red Cross buses to be sent to Gaza, the West Bank and other countries. The plan also foresees the end of bombings in the Gaza Strip and the withdrawal of Israeli troops.
