This Tuesday (14), the Attorney General’s Office (PGR) ruled out the possibility of requesting the preventive detention of Eduardo Bolsonaro. The demonstration took place in the context of a request presented by PT and PSOL parliamentarians.
These parliamentarians requested, in addition to the arrest of certain targets, the blocking of salaries and compensation funds. However, according to the Attorney General of the Republic, Paulo Gonet, this type of request cannot be made by members of the Legislature.
Gonet clarified that, for the request to be validated, it would need to go through the Public Ministry or the Federal Police. According to him, the decision did not involve an analysis of the merits, but rather a strictly procedural issue.
“Despite the boldness with which the parliamentarians who made the request for protocol act, Your Honors are not qualified in any of these positions, which deprives them of the procedural legitimacy to postulate the case” stated the opinion.
Deputy Eduardo Bolsonaro and journalist Paulo Figueiredo were denounced by the PGR on the 22nd. The accusation is that both had tried to coerce Brazilian authorities through international pressure, characterizing possible coercion during the course of a judicial process.
According to the complaint, the two allegedly coordinated the application of sanctions by the United States against members of the Brazilian justice system, with the aim of influencing the trial of former president Jair Bolsonaro (PL).
Eduardo Bolsonaro has been in the United States with his family since March this year and has publicly stated that he has no intention of returning to Brazil.
