Drones invaded the airspace of Munich airport in Germany and caused the cancellation or diversion of more than 30 flights. The incident took place on Thursday (2) and affected about 3,000 passengers and is the latest in a series of raids attributed to Russia in the territory of members of the European Union (EU).
According to German police, several people said they had seen drones in the area on Thursday night. The case happened on the eve of the National Holiday of the German reunification, celebrated on October 3, and last weekend of the Munich Oktoberfest, which attracts hundreds of thousands of people.
Countries such as Denmark and Norway also suspended landings and takeoffs due to fear of risks to civil aviation after unidentified drones invaded the region. Last September, Poland and Romania denounced a similar infraction and accused that Moscow was behind the action.
Kremlin countered the accusations and said it is not responsible for the acts. On the other hand, after commenting on the closure of Munich airport, Russian President Vladimir Putin joked that he would no longer send drones to Denmark.
Munich airport operations resumed at 5 am at local time, as reported by a local spokeswoman for the AFP news agency. “Passengers affected by closing yesterday [quinta-feira] They have been rescheduled and flights canceled yesterday will be rescheduled for today, ”he said.
