Russia has expressed deep concern about the possible deployment of Tomahawk missiles by the United States to Ukraine. According to the Russian regime, the war has reached a dramatic moment, with escalations coming from all sides.
“The topic of the Tomahawks is of extreme concern,” Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told Russian state broadcaster, in an interview with journalist Pavel Zarubin, released this Sunday. “We are, indeed, in a very dramatic moment, with tensions rising on all sides.”
Also this Sunday, after embarking for Israel, where he will monitor the release of hostages held by Hamas in Gaza, the President of the United States, Donald Trump, stated that he may send the missiles to Ukraine if Russia does not resolve the war soon.
“I could say, ‘Look, if this war doesn’t get resolved, I’m going to send them Tomahawks,’” Trump told reporters aboard the presidential plane Air Force One. “The Tomahawk is an incredible weapon, a very offensive weapon. And, honestly, Russia doesn’t need it.”
Tomahawk missiles could reach Moscow
The range of Tomahawk missiles is around 2,500 kilometers, which would allow Ukraine to carry out long-range attacks on Russian territory, including the capital, Moscow. According to the US Congressional Research Service, some older versions of these missiles can carry nuclear warheads.
In this Sunday’s interview, the Kremlin spokesman stated that, if Tomahawk missiles were launched against Russia, Moscow would have to consider that some versions could carry nuclear warheads.
“Imagine: a long-range missile is launched and we know it can be nuclear. What should the Russian Federation think? How should it react? Military experts abroad should understand this,” Peskov said.
Putin said sending Tomahawk to Kiev could end relations with the US
On October 5, Russian dictator Vladimir Putin had already warned the United States that supplying Tomahawk missiles to Ukraine would destroy relations between the Kremlin and the White House.
Also this Sunday (12), the newspaper Financial Times reported that Ukraine has been counting on US support for months to carry out long-range attacks against Russian energy facilities.
According to the newspaper, American intelligence assistance to Kiev involves planning routes, altitude, schedule and defining missions — which allows Ukrainian drones to evade Russian air defenses.
