This Thursday (16), minister Alexandre de Moraes decided to reopen an investigation that investigates possible interference by former president Jair Bolsonaro in the Federal Police. The decision responds to a request made recently by the Attorney General’s Office.
The investigation had previously been archived at the request of the Attorney General, Augusto Aras, after the PF concluded that there was not sufficient evidence of a crime. However, the current prosecutor, Paulo Gonet, defends a new analysis of the case.
According to Gonet, the reopening of the investigation is justified in view of the ongoing trials in the Federal Supreme Court regarding possible crimes committed against democracy. The idea is to check if there is a connection between the two cases.
The inquiry was originally opened based on accusations made by former Minister of Justice and current senator Sergio Moro. He stated that Bolsonaro tried to interfere politically in the PF during his term.
Now, with the investigation resumed, the PGR will have 15 days to officially comment on the case.
