This Thursday (30), Minister Alexandre de Moraes ordered that Lieutenant Colonel Mauro Cid begin serving the sentence stipulated by the Federal Supreme Court amid his conviction for participating in the coup plot, on January 8, 2023.
Cid had his sentence reduced for reporting the STF invasion: 2 years of open prison, subject to precautionary measures.
Moraes ordered that the period during which the lieutenant colonel was imprisoned in a preventive format be calculated, so that this time can be deducted from the sentence imposed on Jair Bolsonaro’s former aide-de-camp.
Throughout the investigation, Cid was arrested on two occasions, totaling six months in prison. Among the eight defendants in Core 1 of the coup plot, Cid was the only one who did not file a motion for clarification, which would be a resource used to correct some possible errors made by the first group of the STF.
With that, Moraes continued the lieutenant colonel’s case before the others. The decision marks the first order to begin serving sentences among those convicted in the different centers investigated for the attempted coup d’état.
According to the order, Cid will be able to remove the electronic ankle bracelet, but will continue to be subject to restrictions, such as the prohibition on carrying weapons and using social networks.
