Federal Supreme Court (STF) minister Alexandre de Moraes denied the visit request presented by Jair Bolsonaro’s defense for a meeting between the former president and the president of the Liberal Party, Valdemar Costa Neto. With the maintenance of the precautionary measures imposed by the Court, Bolsonaro remains prohibited from having contact with other defendants and those investigated in the coup plot.
The First Panel of the Court decided this Tuesday (21) to reopen the investigation against Valdemar for his involvement in the attempted coup d’état after the 2022 elections. With the decision, the crimes of criminal organization and attempted violent abolition of the Democratic Rule of Law will be investigated.
In 2024, the PL leader was indicted by the Federal Police (PF) in the investigation into the coup plot. However, Valdemar was not denounced by the Attorney General’s Office (PGR) in any of the four accused groups. According to the PF, Valdemar supported and financed questions about the integrity of electronic voting machines and propagated doubts about the electoral system.
