The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mauro Vieira, meets this Thursday (16) with the North American Secretary of State. This will be the first meeting of its kind since the beginning of Donald Trump’s second term at the helm of the White House.
The initial forecast was that the meeting would take place on Friday (17), after Vieira and Rubio completed other international agendas. However, changes in plans altered the plans and the Brazilian chancellor, who was in Rome, chose to fly directly to Washington instead of returning to Brasília first. He arrived in the North American capital last Tuesday (14).
The meeting became even more necessary after the Americans began to exert economic pressure with tariffs. Currently, Brazil faces rates of 50%, with the brand standing out as one of the largest in the world.
Although the meeting between the two officials is not recorded in the State Department’s public appointments calendar, the agency published a statement informing that both agreed to meet in person soon.
In addition to seeking a consensus with Marco Rubio, Mauro Vieira will prepare the basis for the meeting between Lula and Donald Trump. The idea is for this to happen this month, in Asia, even though the agenda remains undefined.
