Maduro uses early Christmas to mask chaos in Venezuela

by Marcelo Moreira

This week, Nicolás Maduro’s dictatorship began the Christmas festivities, two months before the date traditionally celebrated in the rest of the world. Despite the false festive climate demonstrated by the regime’s allies on the streets, Venezuela is increasingly sunk in political, economic and social repression, with no end of the end.

While hundreds of chavists attended a ruling act in Bolivar Square in Caracas, some with costumes or elements alluding to Christmas, political opposition recalled the country’s catastrophic situation, citing hundreds of political prisoners and growing violence against those who do not agree with the authoritarian direction of Venezuela.

“From here, from Bolivar Square, (we send) a greeting to our president [ditador]Nicolás Maduro Moros, who is seeing us. That listening to this cry of happiness from all the people of Caracas! “Said the mayor of Caracas, ally of the regime, Carmen Meléndez.

The dictatorship used Venezuela’s main torture center, the prison center The Helicoidwhere hundreds of political prisoners are located, such as one of the “celebration” points of early Christmas. The opposition denounced that the regime released fireworks from the place on Wednesday night.

Reports of the UN Independent Independent International Mission have denounced in recent years that the Maduro regime uses the The Helicoid Like a torture center, where detainees are forced to chokes with bags or water, electric shocks in private parts and “blunt” objects.

“The detainees were exposed to threats of death and rape, forced nudity at extreme temperatures and long periods of chain,” says one of the international organization’s reports.

According to the international mission, since the July 2024 election period, the murders during protests, deaths in the state custody, arbitrary arrests, torture, forced disappearances and sexual violence have grown significantly in Venezuela.

Maduro’s dictatorship also seeks to mask with public celebrations the climbing tensions with the United States, which on Friday confirmed a new attack near the Venezuelan coast.

The director of an organization that participated in the regime’s propagandistic acts told EFE Agency That the anticipation of Christmas festivities is “very good”, as it allows the population to “forget everything” what is happening in the country, including the US naval presence in the Caribbean.

Maduro announced in September the advance of the festivity, as he did in previous years since he came to power in 2013, arguing that this is a “formula” that has “very well for the economy, for culture” and “to joy”. According to the dictator, early Christmas became a “tradition” in his country in favor of the “sacred right to happiness.”

Christmas in Venezuela began two days after vice president Delcy Rodríguez announced that Maduro signed a “external commotion decree” that gives him powers and “special colleges” to act on defense and security “due to American” threats “.
