The Lula government has already removed more than 2.5 million people from the Bolsa Família program. The number of beneficiaries has been falling steadily since December 2022, when the program recorded 21.6 million monthly payments.
In October this year, the total number of beneficiaries fell to just under 19 million, with departures becoming more intense from July onwards.
To justify the reduction, the government states that there was an increase in family income and that cases of fraud were identified and excluded from the program.
The average Bolsa Família benefit reached R$683.42 in October, a significant increase compared to December 2019, when the average value was R$191.77. The increase of 256.4% far exceeds the accumulated inflation of 39.9% in the period.
