Lily Allen Alludes to David Harbour Breakup

by Marcelo Moreira

Lily Allen knows it’s hard out here sometimes.

Eight months after she and estranged husband David Harbour broke up, Lily shared insight into how her forthcoming album pulls back the curtain on the end of their four-year marriage.

“I made this record in December 2024 and it was a way for me to process what was happening in my life,” she told British Vogue in an interview published Oct. 17. “There are things that are on the record that I experienced within my marriage, but that’s not to say that it’s all gospel. It is inspired by what went on in the relationship.”

As for what she was feeling while making the album—which she did in a mere 16 days—Lily said, “Confusion, sorrow, grief, helplessness.”

Among the revealing lyrics the 40-year-old has penned, are the words, “You let me think it was me in my head / and nothing to do with them girls in your bed,” in “Sleepwalking,” as well as, “You know I used to be quite famous that was way back in the day / I probably should explain how my marriage has been open since my husband went astray” in “Dallas Major.”
