Jesse Williams Returns for Grey’s Anatomy Season 22

by Marcelo Moreira

Jesse Williams is lacing up his scrub cap again.

After his Grey’s Anatomy departure in 2021, the actor, who plays Dr. Jackson Avery, is set to make a rare return to Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital.

Indeed, his character—who has only made a handful of guest appearances since his 2021 exit—surprisingly showed up in an Oct. 23 teaser for an upcoming season 22 episode and naturally, encourages Meredith (Ellen Pompeo) to return to her Alzheimer’s research in Boston, where he also now lives.

“You’ve got to be kidding me,” Meredith says in the promo for episode four, which is set to air Oct. 30. The scene cuts to her unexpectedly confronting Jackson in person at the Seattle hospital and calling out another departed doctor, Tom Koracick (Greg Germann), “You let Koracick publish his Alzheimer’s results?”

To which Jackson simply quips, “Good to see you by the way.”

Meredith, who reembarked on her journey to cure Alzheimer’s in season 19, continued her offense. As she notes, “He only studied male mice.”
