The X’s caption, where the content had over 3.8 million views, says: “The largest flotilla in modern history. Shipping to break an illegal siege of 18 years in Gaza.” Flotilla is the term that refers to a fleet formed small vessels – as in fact it is seen in the recording. But the description of the posts is liar. This is because, although the scene is real – not something produced by artificial intelligence (AI) – images have nothing to do with supposed humanitarian aid heading to Gaza. It is, in fact, the celebration of fans of the Galatasaray soccer team from Türkiye (read below). The fake circulated amid the group action of a group of activists who departed towards Gaza. This flotilla (called Global Sumud) is made up of at least 44 civil boats with about 500 people, including Greta Thunberg. This Wednesday (1st), Israel intercepted boats of the group and took the occupants to the port of Ashdod, in Israeli territory. The Government of Brazil reported that there are at least ten Brazilians in the flotilla. “Greta and his friends are safe and healthy,” said the Foreign Ministry of Israel. ⚠️ Why is this a lie? The recording shows the celebration of Galatasaray fans, Istanbul’s team, on May 25 this year, days after the team won the title of the Turkish Championship. The original record was shared at Tiktok the next day, with this caption: “#istambul #Galatasaray🦁 Champion”. You can notice team flags hanging from vessels that appear in the recording (see below). The club also shared in its official X images aerial images showing several boats with the Galatasaray flag on the date of the celebration.
