It is #FAKE that a video shows congestion on a holiday in China with 10 million cars Reproduction A post is circulating on social media with a video showing congestion in Chuzhou, China. The caption says there were more than 10 million vehicles. It’s #FAKE. fake seal g1 🛑 What’s the post like? Published this Monday (13) on X, the post has the following caption: “10 million cars were stuck in a traffic jam in China after a long 8-day holiday across the country.” The publication has a video with aerial and nighttime images of intense congestion on a highway, in the area of a toll booth. The record shows thousands of cars with their taillights on, forming a sea of red lights. ⚠️ Why is the post fake? Although the video is real — and not something produced by artificial intelligence (AI) — the caption is misleading. The recording, in fact, shows the congestion in Chuzhou on Tuesday (7), when around 148,000 vehicles circulated at peak hour through the Wuzhuang toll plaza, according to the Chinese press. To find the origin of the content, Fato ou Fake used the InViD platform and fragmented video into several frames (still images). Then, he did a reverse search for these “photos” on Google Lens. This action allows you to check whether the same scenes were already published online. One of the results had the symbol of CCTV, China’s national TV broadcaster. Fato ou Fake then searched on Douyin (a kind of Chinese version of TikTok) and finally found the same video. “With the end of the holiday approaching, millions of people are returning to work”, says the description of the content, also published on Tuesday itself. The registration was made during Golden Week (October 1st to 8th), a national holiday week to celebrate the founding of the People’s Republic of China. In 2025, the period coincided with the Autumn Festival (or Moon Festival), which takes place on the 15th day of the eighth month of the Chinese lunar calendar – this year, the date fell on October 6th. In a note published on its website in January, the Chinese Ministry of Transport reports that the Wuzhuang toll plaza is one of the largest in the country – it is located in the city of Chuzhou and serves as one of the main entry and exit channels in the Yangtze River Delta region. Precisely due to the extremely high flow on commemorative dates, a system called “tidal traffic” was implemented there. It “allows you to dynamically switch the direction of the entry and exit lanes according to the volume of vehicles, relieving congestion.” The text describes that the maximum limit is 12 input lanes and 24 output lanes.
