Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said on Saturday (4) that he expects the liberation of all hosts detained by Hamas in Gaza in the coming days. The statement takes place a day before the beginning of peace negotiations in Cairo, mediated by Egypt and with support from the United States.
In televised pronouncement, Netanyahu pointed out that negotiations advance at an intense pace and that the safe return of hostages is the priority of the Israeli government. “With God’s help, we hope to announce the liberation of all hostages soon,” said the prime minister, reinforcing that the Israeli army continues to act in different areas of the Gaza Strip.
Netanyahu’s speech followed the position line of the US President Donald Trump, who warned Hamas not to delay the negotiation process. According to the prime minister, Israel will give “several days” to the Palestinian group to finish the release of hostages without tolerating delays.
Netanyahu also stressed that the nod of Hamas to accept liberating hostages represents a significant advance from the Peace Plan proposed by the United States. The premie pointed out that diplomatic and military pressure has contributed to the advancement of negotiations and reinforced the goal of disarming Hamas and demilitarizing Gaza.
The Israeli government reported that a team of negotiators, led by the Minister of Strategic Affairs, is already in Egypt to finalize the details of the agreement. Conversations must define the schedule and release terms, considered strategic to reduce tension in the region.
