Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu celebrated this Thursday (16) the death of Houthi military commander Mohamed al-Ghamari, the target of Israeli attacks on several occasions. The terrorist group, an ally of Iran, confirmed the information in a statement released earlier this day, although it did not specify details or dates of his death.
“Another chief of staff has been eliminated in the line of terrorist commanders who sought to harm us; we will reach them all,” the Israeli official said in a statement on Thursday. Netanyahu added: “The determined hand of the State of Israel will reach out to all those who sought to harm us and set out to destroy Israel.”
The prime minister’s words came after Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz also celebrated al-Ghamari’s death in a separate statement, saying the Houthi rebel “joined his comrades eliminated from the axis of evil in the depths of hell.”
Last June, the Israeli army confirmed the attack on al-Ghamari, but did not specify whether the objective had been achieved, stating only that the bombing took place as Israeli forces tried to repel a new wave of Iranian offensives.
Furthermore, in late August, local Yemeni media reported that the Houthi military chief had been injured in another Israeli attack on the group’s top brass in Sanaa, Yemen’s capital, which claimed the lives of its prime minister, Ahmed al Rahawi, and other ministers.
However, a Houthi source told EFE Agency on Thursday that al-Ghamari died in another attack, without providing further details.
The Houthis had already announced last week that they would remain “on high alert and prepared”, despite the signing of the Gaza agreement promoted by American President Donald Trump, and stated that the conflict with Israel “continues”. That same day, they announced the appointment of Major General Yousef al-Madani as Mohamed al-Ghamari’s replacement.
Since the terrorist attacks of October 7, 2023, the Houthis have allied themselves with Hamas by launching drone airstrikes against the country. Most of these launches were thwarted by Israeli defenses, but some entered the territory and left people injured in recent months.
