Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu reaffirmed this Wednesday (29) that the Israeli government and the United States act in a coordinated manner to ensure compliance with the main objective of the ceasefire in Gaza: the complete disarmament of Hamas and the demilitarization of the enclave.
During a visit to the Civil-Military Coordination Center in Kiryat Gat, which houses the joint headquarters of Israeli and American forces tasked with overseeing the ceasefire, Netanyahu highlighted that “the security responsibility of our forces and our freedom of action are recognized by our partners.”
The prime minister was accompanied by the chief of staff of the Israel Defense Forces (IDF), Eyal Zamir, the commander of US CENTCOM, Admiral Brad Cooper, and other senior Israeli officials, including the director of Shin Bet, David Zini.
In a joint statement, Netanyahu said Israel “wants to ensure that the objective agreed upon by President Trump and me, with the consent of others – the disarmament of Hamas and the demilitarization of Gaza – is achieved.” According to him, the process advances “in stages, along with other components of the plan”.
“There is a real joint effort here, taking our security in our own hands, to achieve results that perhaps no one believed we could achieve – but we are determined to try,” said the Prime Minister.
The visit comes amid new ceasefire violations by Hamas, which led Israel to carry out a specific response in recent days. The Israeli government has reiterated that it will not allow the military restructuring of the terrorist group, and that coordination with Washington aims to consolidate a security model that prevents Hamas from returning to power in the Gaza Strip.
