The Israeli Army announced this Wednesday (29) that it resumed the ceasefire in the Gaza Strip after a day of clashes with terrorists in the city of Rafah, which left at least one Israeli reserve soldier dead.
According to the military, members of Hamas launched an attack against troops stationed in the south of the Palestinian enclave. In response, Israel reported that it had struck “dozens of terrorist targets.”
“In accordance with the directive of the political echelon, and after a series of attacks in which dozens of terrorist targets were hit and terrorists were neutralized, the Army resumed the application of the ceasefire in response to Hamas violations”, says a statement released this Wednesday, justifying that the operation was a reaction to the attacks initiated by Hamas. “The Army will continue to respect the ceasefire agreement and will respond firmly to any violations.”
According to military reports, soldier Yona Efraim Feldbaum, 37, was operating a heavy machine within the limits established in the agreement when terrorists began shooting at the Army. Hamas denied involvement in the attacks.
According to Israeli Foreign Ministry spokesman Oren Marmorstein, the terrorist group is trying to thwart the progress of United States President Donald Trump’s plan for the Gaza Strip with constant violations of the ceasefire. The objective, according to Israel, is to avoid its disarmament, an issue that must be addressed in the second phase of the American proposal.
“I want to be very clear: Israel is committed to Trump’s plan, the only problem is that Hamas is not, because it does not want this plan to move forward to avoid its disarmament,” said Marmorstein.
The Israeli spokesman pointed out that the clearest proof of this is the lies told by terrorists that they do not know the whereabouts of the 13 dead hostages held in Gaza. On Monday night, Hamas handed over the remains of a hostage that had been recovered from the enclave two years ago.
