Hamas accepts Trump’s proposal for hostage release

by Marcelo Moreira

This Friday (03), through a letter released in its media, Hamas accepted President Donald Trump’s proposal to free Israeli hostages. The decision was made after broad internal consultations and with the presence of several Palestinian forces, as well as dialogues with international mediators.

The group said it recognizes the efforts of Arab, Islamic and international community, including Trump’s to end war, as well as allowing humanitarian aid, enabling prisoners’ exchange and avoiding forced displacement of the Palestinian population.

As part of the plan, Hamas has stated that it was willing to free all Israeli prisoners, alive or dead, based on the proposal presented. The group was also ready to immediately start negotiations through the mediators, provided that the “field conditions” are guaranteed.

In addition, they reiterated their willingness to transfer the administration of the Gaza Strip to a Palestinian body composed of independent technocrats. This transition would occur based on a Palestinian national consensus and supported by Arab and Islamic countries.

The letter marks a rare public sign of opening by Hamas amid prolonged conflict in Gaza and may represent a new chapter in attempts to achieve a negotiated solution to the humanitarian and political crisis in the region.

At the moment, neither Trump nor Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu spoke about the answer.

In the last press conference together, the American presented the proposal to include the establishment of a transient administration in the Gaza Strip, led by Palestinian technocrats, without direct participation of Hamas, as well as the disarmament of the group and the implementation of an international force to ensure stability.
