Greta commits faux pas when using photo of hostage to criticize Israel

by Marcelo Moreira

Swedish activist Greta Thunberg, who became the poster girl for the flotilla intercepted by Israel last week heading to the Gaza Strip, came under fire this week after using a photo of an Israeli hostage in a video dedicated to criticizing “systematic cruelty” against Palestinian prisoners.

“The suffering of Palestinian prisoners is not a matter of opinion – it is a fact of cruelty and dehumanization. Humanity cannot be selective, Justice cannot have borders,” Greta wrote in the post shortly after she was deported from Israel. The content is unavailable this Wednesday (8).

The video itself was made up of graphics with statistics and photos of Palestinians detained in Israel. One of the images added to the content, however, showed Evyatar David, an extremely thin Israeli hostage held captive by terrorists in Gaza. David’s photo was published in a Hamas propaganda video months ago.

Greta’s post was quickly mocked on social media. One of the users who commented was the sister of the hostage who appears in the video, Yeela David. She wrote, “You need to do your research before posting things you don’t understand.”

“On the sixth slide, you included a photo of an ISRAELIAN HOSTAGE that Hamas deliberately starved to death! This is Evyatar David,” Yeela added.

The Israeli government also spoke out about the post, saying that “ignorance blinded by hate has become a ‘trend’. Greta posted about ‘Palestinian prisoners’ using the image of Israeli hostage Evyatar David – starved, abused and forced by Palestinian Hamas to dig his own grave.”

Evyatar David was kidnapped by terrorists at the music festival taking place near the border with Gaza, on October 7, 2023, and was held captive for these two years.
