Germany formalized the purchase of 20 new Eurofighter fighters from Tranche 5, in a contract valued at around US$4.36 billion, signed on October 15, 2025.
The aircraft, which will replace part of the German Air Force’s Tornado fleet, will be produced by Airbus in Manching and delivered between 2031 and 2034. The agreement, approved days earlier by the Bundestagreinforces the country’s commitment to I’LL TAKE and with the expansion of its air defense capabilities.

The new Eurofighters will be equipped with the ECRS Mk 1 AESA radar and the Saab Arexis electronic warfare system, raising the level of onboard technology. They must adopt the Phase 4 Enhancement (P4E) configuration, which brings improvements in sensors, cockpit and interoperability, allowing multiple simultaneous operations with less workload for the pilot. These updates should guarantee the fleet’s operation until the 2060s, when the fighter will begin to operate in a network with the Future Combat Air System (FCAS), scheduled for 2040.
At the same time, Germany continues to develop the Eurofighter EKa version focused on electronic warfare and suppression of enemy defenses (SEAD). Fifteen existing units will be converted and certified by NATO by 2030, replacing the older Tornado ECRs. The project, which includes the use of the AGM-88E AARGM missile and technologies based on artificial intelligence, is expected to cost around US$1.32 billion and be completed by 2033, consolidating the Eurofighter as a key part of German air defense in the coming decades.
