France is modernizing its Mirage 2000D RMV fighter jets to confront new threats, especially to counter enemy drones.
The aircraft is equipped with MICA IR missiles instead of the older Magic II and also carries a 30mm cannon, but is currently used only for ground support and does not have an air target tracking system.
The French military is also considering arming its fighter jets with laser-guided missiles, such as Thales’ ACULEUS-LG missiles, to increase their effectiveness against drones. This tactic is already used by American F-16 fighter jets in the Red Sea region. Re-equipment of AASM guided bombs is also being considered to increase the Mirage’s precision strike capabilities.
Development goes beyond weapons, the project also includes software updates and artificial intelligence integration, allowing the Mirage 2000D RMV to process data from the TALIOS optical system in real time.
According to General Jérôme Bélanger, leader of the French Air Force, the aircraft still has great potential and continues to evolve with flexible and cost-effective solutions.
