A federal grand jury in the US state of Maryland indicted this Thursday (16) former national security advisor John Bolton, a former ally of President Donald Trump who became an enemy of the Republican president.
According to information from CNN, Bolton is accused of having shared confidential information with his wife and daughter via email.
In August, FBI agents had executed search warrants at Bolton’s Maryland home and his office in Washington, where they seized documents marked “secret,” “confidential” and “classified,” including some on weapons of mass destruction, according to court filings.
Bolton is due to appear in court in Marlyand on Friday (17). He was national security advisor between April 2018 and September 2019, in Trump’s first term, but left the government due to differences with the president on issues such as Iran and North Korea.
Bolton became a commentator on TV stations and started criticizing Trump. His lawyers have not yet commented on the indictment.
This Thursday, Trump was informed by a journalist at the White House about the indictment of his disaffection. “I didn’t know this — you’re telling me this for the first time, but I think he’s, you know, a bad person. I think he’s a bad guy,” the president said.
