At least three people died after strong floods caused by torrential rainfall hit a Bulgarian resort of Elenite in the Black Sea. The information was confirmed on Friday (3) by the country news agency BTA.
According to the country’s interior minister, one of the victims was a man who was in the basement of a building when the water broke into the site. The other two deaths were from rescuers trying to respond to requests for help. The disclosure was made by the Bulgarian Interior Minister, Daniel Mitov.
More than 10 fire trucks were mobilized in the region to help people in flooded areas and the Army sent two boats with rescue teams to flooded areas. “We are monitoring the situation. If the Interior Ministry requests us, we are ready to send additional forces,” said Defense Minister Atanas Zapryanov, according to BTA.
The affected area is expected to receive heavy rains this weekend, which forced the government to decree alertness. Earlier this week, the island of Ibiza and the Valencia region, both in Spain, were also hit by floods that paralyzed tourism, schools and other local activities.
