The president of the Senate, Davi Alcolumbre, called for this Thursday (30) at 10 am a joint session of the National Congress with a single item on the agenda: the project that alters the rules governing the validity of changes to Income Tax proposed by the federal government.
According to the government, the proposal seeks to reinforce the principle of tax progressivity, ensuring that those who earn more pay more tax.
If approved, changes to Income Tax rates, such as reductions, may be valid for an indefinite period of time and no longer just for five years, as currently determined by the Budgetary Guidelines Law.
The proposal is considered essential, which exempts anyone earning up to R$5,000 from income tax. According to the government, the measure seeks to guarantee the principle of tax progressivity provided for in the Constitution, that is, those with higher income pay more tax.
