The Civil Police carried out, this Friday (10), an operation to execute search and seizure warrants in São Caetano do Sul, São Bernardo do Campo and São Paulo. The action is carried out by teams from the Environmental Crimes Investigations Department.
The actions are carried out at eight addresses, all related to the targets of the investigation linked to methanol contamination in alcoholic beverages. At one of the addresses, in São Bernardo do Campo, a factory was found that distributed illegal drinks to other establishments in the region.
Officers arrived at the scene after investigating the death of the first victim due to poisoning. In testimony, the owner of a bar confessed that he had purchased products from an unauthorized distributor that used ethanol from gas stations in the irregular manufacture of drinks. The substance would be mixed with methanol, which is extremely toxic and prohibited for human consumption.
During the operation, drinks, cell phones and other items of police interest were seized. Eight people under investigation were located and taken to give statements. The Civil Police continues with investigations to determine the involvement of the suspects and the origin of the seized products.
