The helicopters arrived at the Royal Australian Air Force base in Richmond, New South Wales, aboard a US Air Force C-17 Globemaster III transport aircraft.

With this delivery, the Australian Army has now received 17 of the planned 40 UH-60M Black Hawk helicopters, which will gradually replace the fleet of MRH-90 Typhoonwhich is considered obsolete. The replacement program is part of a comprehensive modernization plan for Australia’s military aviation, which will continue until 2030.

The new helicopters improve the mobility of the troops and provide increased capacity for rapid transport of personnel, equipment and rescue operations under combat conditions.
According to the official statement, “US-Australia cooperation in the defense sector remains one of the most important areas of development, strengthening mutual interoperability on the battlefield.”
