On October 17, two drones of unknown origin were spotted near the base of the 2nd Infantry Brigade of the Estonian Defense Forces in Reedo, in the south of the country. One of the drones was shot down by allied forces with an anti-drone rifle.
After the incident, Estonian forces, in cooperation with the police and the Border Guard (PPA), conducted a search operation, but failed to locate the downed device. General Staff spokeswoman Liis Waxmann said security details would not be disclosed.
Reedo is home to the US Army’s 5th Squadron, 7th Cavalry Regiment, an armored reconnaissance unit within NATO forces. The city is located about 45 km from the Russian border and Estonia has already declared that it is ready to shoot down any Russian aircraft if it perceives a threat.
