The president of the Senate, Davi Alcolumbre (União-AP), and the president of the Chamber, Hugo Motta (PB), praised the meeting between President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) and the President of the United States, Donald Trump, held this Sunday (26) in Malaysia. Both classified the gesture as an important step towards strengthening relations between the two countries.
Alcolumbre evaluated the meeting “very positively” and highlighted the historic nature of the friendship between Brazil and the United States.
“The friendly relationship between Brazil and the United States is historic and strategic. I congratulate all the actors who contributed to us reaching this moment, which represents an important milestone in a process that continues”, he stated in publication on social media.
The senator also highlighted that the National Congress remains committed to dialogue and diplomacy, which, according to him, are “ways to build consensus and bring people together”.
In the same vein, Hugo Motta congratulated Lula and Trump on the meeting and stated that “when leaders choose to talk, history is grateful”.
“I’m happy to see that dialogue and diplomacy are once again at the center of relations between Brazil and the United States. It was like this in the great turning points of the world, always through words, never through silence”, Motta also wrote in publication on social media.
Motta added that the Chamber of Deputies will continue to collaborate with Brazilian diplomacy, “voting on important issues on the subject and committed to serving the country”.
