The Central Bank’s Economic Activity Index (IBC-Br), considered a preview of the country’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP), registered an increase of 0.4% in August 2025, compared to the previous month. The result interrupts a sequence of three consecutive monthly drops and indicates a possible resumption of Brazilian economic activity.
In July, the indicator had dropped 0.5%, according to data reviewed by the Central Bank. Despite the advance in August, performance was below financial market projections, which estimated an increase of 0.6% for the period.
In the first eight months of the year, the IBC-Br registered growth of 2.6%. In the 12-month period ending in August, the increase was 3.2%. The official GDP result for the third quarter will be released by IBGE in early December.
