On September 27, the Russian Ministry of Defense released a video introducing crew training for the “central” unit that operates the latest T-90M tank “Prorif.”
The exercise was conducted at a training ground located behind the combat zone with Ukraine and in what Russia calls the “special military operational zone.”

Tank crews carried out a “fire advance” tactic, in which they fired continuously while advancing. We also trained to use concealed fire positions using terrain and fortress to enhance our protection and immediate response.
The importance of the T-90M “Pro Riff”
The T-90M is considered the most advanced tank in the Russian Army. This is a modernized model of the T-90, and features a reactive armor called “Relikt”, an improved fire control system, an active protection system for anti-tank missiles, and a 125mm gun that can fire a variety of ammunition, including guided missiles.
However, despite these technical improvements, the T-90M suffers a major loss on the battlefield. Many vehicles have been destroyed or seriously damaged, especially due to the large-scale operation of Ukrainian military suicide-destructive and FPV drones. Independence reports and OSINT analysis show that even state-of-the-art tanks are vulnerable in front of the drone war.
Strategic background
Military analysts interpret the training as an attempt to “improve crew survival rates” and “improve armored force operations to adapt to unmanned aerial threats.” The threat of drones has become one of the biggest challenges for mechanized forces in modern warfare.
