“Ivan Papanin” is the first ship in project 23550, developed by the design office Almaz.
The vessel combines patrol, ice switch and towing functions and is able to protect and monitor water resources in Arctic areas, escort and tow vessels, as well as participate in rescue and logistics assignments.
Named after the Soviet Arctic explorer and Rear Admiral Ivan Papanin, who was twice awarded the hero of the Soviet Union, the ship was closed down in April 2017, launched in October 2019, and is now officially included in the northern fleet.
