The United States is expanding its military presence in Asia amid growing tensions in the region. This week, the US Air Force began to install a permanent drone base approximately 400 kilometers from China.

The 431st Expeditionary Recognition Squad was activated on Monday (29) at the Kunsan Air Base, on the west coast of South Korea.

The announcement comes on the same day that North Korea has stated at the UN General Assembly that it will not give up its nuclear program, nor will it sign any agreement for a denuclearized Korean peninsula.

According to CNNthe military installation will be intended to prepare MQ-9 Reaper drones for future operations in the Asian region. The American Air Force explains in a leaflet that these unmanned equipment is able to perform different combat missions and have a range of more than 2,500 kilometers and ability to remain in the air indefinitely with air replenishment.

In recent months, the United States has also repositioned F-16 hips closer to North Korea, after a meeting between China’s Xi Jinping dictators and North Korea Kim Jong-un.

This week, sources told the The Wall Street Journal (WSJ) That the Pentagon has met with critical weapon manufacturers to press the increase in missile production, aiming at a possible war with China.

President Trump and Secretary of Defense, Pete Hegseth, will lead an unusual meeting on Tuesday with the leading US military personnel around the world. The reason for the meeting has not yet been announced by the White House.
