Ukraine officials said on Monday that Russia would be linked to the murder of Andriy Parubiy, former president of Parliament and central figure of the Euromaidan Revolution.
The 53 -year -old politician was shot dead on Saturday (30) in the middle of daylight in Kiev, when a gunman dismissed eight times at him. Police arrested a 52 -year -old suspect and resident in LVIV, 36 hours after the crime.
Ukraine National Police Chief Ivan Vyhivskyi said in a statement that “we know this crime is not accidental. There is a Russian trail in it.” Moments after the attack on Saturday, President Volodymyr Zelensky said the killer had acted in a planned way.
“I was well prepared and organized,” said Zelensky.
Parubiy has had a prominent performance in Ukrainian politics in the last two decades. He was one of the leaders of the Orange Revolution in 2004 and, between 2016 and 2019, held the position of President of Parliament. He also served as Secretary of the Ukraine Security and Defense Council and, in 2013-2014, led the self-defense units that faced police forces during Euromaidan protests, which resulted in the fall of then-Pro-Russian President Viktor Yanukovych, now exiled in Moscow.
In recent months, in addition to being the target of Kremlin’s military invasion, Ukraine lives a wave of murders against political figures and activists contrary to the Vladimir Putin regime. Before Parubiy, former deputy Ilyna Farion was killed in LVIV and activist Demian Hanul in Odesa.
