United States President Donald Trump warned on Monday that he should block federal government funds to New York if Democratic Party candidate Zohran Mamdani, who defines himself as a “Democratic Socialist”, becomes mayor of the city.
“The self -proclaimed communist of New York City, Zohran Mamdani, who competes for the City Hall, will prove to be one of the best things that happened to our large republican party,” Trump said on the social truth.
The president stressed that Mamdani “will have problems with Washington like no other mayor” in New York’s history.
“Remember, he needs my money, as president, to fulfill all his false communist promises. He will not receive anything, so what’s the point of vote for him?” Asked the president.
Trump added that Mamdani’s ideology “failed for thousands of years” and predicted that he will “fail again.”
The Republican leader wrote the message a day after the current mayor of New York, Eric Adams, abandoned the candidacy for reelection as independent due to bad results in the polls.
After Adams’s withdrawal, the dispute for the November 5 elections is limited to Mamdani, who leads the polls after beating the primary democrats in June; Andrew Cuomo, who lost his primary democrats and competes as independent; and the Republican Curtis Silwa.
