United States President Donald Trump said on Friday that other people should be sued after the defendant of former FBI director James Comey, his disaffection.
“There is no list, but I think there will be others,” Trump told reporters at the White House, according to CNN.
“I mean, they are corrupt. They were corrupt democrats, from the radical left […] There will be others. This is my opinion. They instrumentalized the Department of Justice [DOJ, na sigla em inglês] like no one else in history. What they did is terrible. I hope, frankly, that there are others, because you can’t let it happen to a country, ”said the Republican.
Comey, former FBI director who investigated Trump for possible Russian ties with the Republican campaign in 2016, was indicted on Thursday (25) by a large federal jury in the state of Virginia for the accusations of making false statements and obstruction of justice during a statement he gave to the United States Congress in September 2020.
At the time, the former FBI director, who had been fired by Trump in 2017, said he did not know, nor had he authorized the leakage of information for The Wall Street Journal for the production of a 2016 report on an DOJ-e-mail investigation of then-presidential candidate Hillary Clinton.
Subsequently, Republican Senator Ted Cruz told DOJ in a letter that former FBI deputy director Andrew McCabe admitted to knowing about the leak and authorized him, and said Comey was aware of his decision.
The prosecution accepted on Thursday was presented by interim attorney Lindsey Halligan, sworn in by Trump earlier this week after the American press reported that his predecessor would have resigned due to pressure from the president, for refusing to denounce Comena.
Trump, who had already celebrated Comey’s indictment in a post on Truth Social on Thursday, again pinned the former FBI director on the social network on Friday.
“Whether you like the corrupt James Comey or not, and I can’t imagine a lot of people enjoying him, he lied! It’s not a complex lie, it’s a very simple but important lie. There’s no way to have a compelling explanation to get rid of this,” the US president wrote.
In a video posted on Instagram on Thursday, Comey stated that he is innocent. “My family and I have known for years that facing Donald Trump has a cost. But we can’t imagine ourselves living otherwise. We won’t live on our knees, and you shouldn’t,” he said.
