United States President Donald Trump published in Truth Social an assembly based on the classic Apocalypse Now (1979), film directed by Francis Ford Coppola. In the message, Trump replaced a famous phrase of the work on the use of Napalm in Vietnam with a mention of deportations in the US.
Trump appears characterized in the image as Lieutenant Colonel Bill Kilgore, Robert Duvall’s character in production. In the background, military helicopters flew a village, while the phrase “I Love the Smell of Deportations in the Morning…” (“I love the smell of deportations in the morning” replaces the original quote: “I Love the Smell of Napall in the Morning” (“I love the smell of Napalm in the morning”).
In the feature film, Kilgore’s speech refers to Napalm, an incendiary mix of gasoline used by the US army to destroy Vietnamese villages, leaving fire tracks and deaths. The scene became an icon of cinema, marked by the soundtrack with VALQUITARY CAVALGADE of Wagner.
Trump also changed the title of the film to Chipocalypse Nowin reference to chipotle pepper, a common ingredient in Latin cuisine. The pun is a provocation directed to Hispanic immigrants, the target of the President’s mass deportation policies.
In the subtitle of the publication on the social network, the Republican said that “Chicago is about to find out why he is called the War Department”, alluding to the recent executive order that officially changed the US Department of War Department’s name.
Trump’s post was replicated by the White House on X (former Twitter), accompanied by helicopter emojis.
