United States President Donald Trump announced on Saturday (27) the sending of troops and authorizing the use of “total strength” in Portland, Oregon state.
“At the request of National Security Secretary Kristi Noem, I am instructing War Secretary Pete Hegseth to provide all the necessary troops to protect Portland, devastated by war, and any of our ICE facilities (immigration and customs agency) besieged by antifa attacks and other domestic terrorists,” Trump announced on the platform. Truth Social.
This is the third submission of troops ordered by the president, after Los Angeles (California), Washington DC and Memphis (Tennessee), which increases the presence of military forces and federal agencies in democratic cities.
The mayor of Portland and the governor of Oregon, both Democrats, rejected the sending of troops.
The US president’s decision comes days after protests in front of an ICE detention center, motivated by republican decisions, such as the designation of the antifa movement as an terrorist group.
It was in Portland that the Rose City Antifa, one of the best known groups of the movement today, was founded.
According to the Spanish agency EFE, the decision in the city of Oregon may also have been motivated by the shooting this week in Dallas (Texas) in a center of Ice, which left a dead immigrant and two others injured.
FBI (Federal Police) director Kash Patel shared a photo showing an unused bullet cartridge with “anti-ice” written in blue ink, claiming that he had been found at the crime scene. Following, Trump accused Democrats of encouraging anti-immigration rhetoric.
Portland was one of the American cities identified as a possible destination for troops, as did Chicago (Illinois), Baltimore (Maryland), San Francisco (California), New Orleans (Louisiana) and St. Louis (Missouri), all governed by Democrats.
