The São Paulo State Health Surveillance Center (CVS) reported that there are currently ten cases under investigation with suspected methanol poisoning in adulterated alcohol in São Paulo. Two people have died intoxicated in São Bernardo do Campo and in the capital since June.
According to the São Bernardo City Hall, the patient who died in the city was even treated at the Emergency Hospital, but could not resist. Exams are still awaited to confirm methanol contamination.
Given the facts, the Sanitary Surveillance was notified by the city on September 22. In the last Friday (26), the National Secretariat of Drug Policy and Asset Management of the Ministry of Justice had already confirmed nine cases of intoxication. They are considered, according to the note, “out of the standard for the short period of time and also by deflecting the cases to date notified of methanol poisoning.”
