Journalist Mino Carta was veiled on Tuesday (2) in São Paulo, in a ceremony that brought together family, friends, colleagues and authorities. President Lula appeared to pay tribute and decreed an official three -day mourning across the country.
Mino Carta died at the age of 91 in São Paulo. He had been hospitalized for two weeks in the Syrian-Lebanese ICU due to health problems. The cause of death was not informed by the family.
Mino Carta’s trajectory marked the history of the Brazilian press. He participated in the creation of some of the most influential publications in the country, such as Veja, Istoé and Carta Capital, as well as joining the team that launched Estadão’s Jornal da Tarde.
During the wake, Lula highlighted the long friendship with the journalist, built over almost five decades. The presence of the president reinforced the political and cultural dimension of the legacy left by Mino Carta.
The official mourning decree provides for three days of honors throughout the national territory, recognizing the relevance of its contribution to journalism.
