The governor of Rio Grande do Sul, Eduardo Leite (PSD), and the Ministers of Agriculture and Livestock, Carlos Fávaro, and agrarian development, Paulo Teixeira, were booed on Friday (5) during the official opening of the Expointer 2025 agricultural fair. Rural producers protested against financial aid announced to cover losses.
The federal government sanctioned a provisional measure that releases R $ 12 billion in line of credit to up to 100,000 producers from all over the country who had losses resulting from floods and dried. “I understand the demonstrations perfectly, but I also ask for respect,” said Paulo Teixeira before detailing the aid.
Rural sector representatives criticized the value of the advertised aid, claiming to be less than necessary to cover the losses. “We pointed out a number close to $ 28 billion to solve the problem of indebted producers in the state,” said the president of the Gaucho Agriculture Federation, Gedeão Pereira.
A group dressed black and took wreaths of flowers and balloons to the event to remember the farmers who took their lives on their own debt. “We are asking measures that mitigate all this suffering of gauchos since the flood,” said rural producer Luciane Agazzi. Before the traditional parade of the animals awarded during the fair, the boi Valente – rescued at the flood last year – made a tour honoring resilience in RS.
